BEHOLD Art Exhibition 2022
Compassion
Medium: Acrylics on Canvas
Size: 18 x 24 inches
Completed: 2021
Selling Price: S$1200
This piece of artwork, entitled "Compassion", was composed purposefully without any context to the encounter we are observing. The lack of context gives space for Holy Spirit to bring up the story He wants to remind the viewer of. On one occasion, this artwork may remind one of the woman with the issue of blood; on another occasion, one may remember the woman who was caught in adultery. On yet another day, one might vividly recall the woman who was crying outside the tomb after Jesus was resurrected.
In many of the stories in the Gospels, we see Jesus in a similar posture; he bends down and reaches out. Jesus is the very incarnation of God as He proclaims Himself in Exodus 34:6 “The LORD, the LORD God, is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in loving devotion and faithfulness, maintaining loving devotion to a thousand
generations…..”
“As our compassionate God bends down and reaches out to us, Will we reach back to Him and take His hand?”

This painting is one of two “Story Crosses” featured in the Behold 2022 exhibition. They are intended, not only as reminders of the gospel story, but also as evangelistic tools. The artist hopes that these paintings will inspire many questions and conversations with pre-believers, as they hang in the homes of their owners, calling worshippers and pre-believers alike to “Behold”
This particular “Story Cross” is an abstract piece where colors are used to represent the different elements of the gospel:
Gold : Holiness of God
Black: Sin of mankind
Red: Blood of Jesus
White: Being forgiven and made pure
Blue: The waters of repentance
Green: Growth and fruit bearing as we walk in Jesus
Purple: Fulfilling our call as children, kings and priests
John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that everyone who believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Cloud & Fire
Medium: Acrylics on canvas
Size: 18 x 24inches
Completed: 2022
Selling price: S$1200

This is one of 3 figure paintings by the artist in this exhibition. It is a joyous celebration of encountering Holy Spirit and the resulting breakthrough and freedom. Like the Israelites, we may sometimes feel like we are trudging through miles and miles of desert sand with no end in sight. But even in the dry and arid desert, there is joy awaiting our discovery.
Sheltered in the shade of Yahweh’s pillar of cloud, illuminated by Yahweh’s pillar of fire, our joyous dances invites the participation of Holy Spirit. The result is the breaking of chains and strongholds.
2 Corinthians 3:15
Even to this day when Moses is read, a veil covers their hearts. 16 But whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. 17 Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 18 And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate a the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.
Galatians 5:1
It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not be encumbered once more by a yoke of slavery.
“Rejoice for the presence of the Lord is near. Phil 4:4-9”

The artist hopes that these paintings will inspire many questions and conversations with pre-believers, as they hang in the homes of their owners, calling worshippers and pre-believers alike to “Behold”
This particular “Story Cross” features elements from the major junctures in Jesus’ life: His birth, baptism, crucifixion and glorification. The painting seeks to explore these elements and represent them in a simple color scheme that would make it easy to explain the story of redemption to prebelievers.
The artist also hopes this painting would serve as a focal point for believers to remember and meditate on the majesty of God. Even though Jesus humbled Himself to be incarnated as mortal man, yet His glorious majesty was never far away. The crown, both literal and figurative, followed him throughout His life, from birth to death, and unto resurrection.
Psalm 145:10
10 All Your works will give thanks to You, LORD, and Your godly ones will bless You. 11They will speak of the glory of Your kingdom, and talk of Your might, 12 To make known to the sons of mankind Your mighty acts, and the glory of the majesty of Your kingdom. 13 Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and Your dominion endures throughout all generations.

Fearfully and Wonderfully
Medium: Acrylics on Canvas
Size: 23 x 33 inches
Completed: 2022
Selling price: S$2,100

This is one of 3 figure paintings by the artist in this exhibition. It is a joyous meditation of Him who knitted us together in our mother’s womb.
As we journey through life, we may feel conflicted about who we are, our race, our nationality or the family we are born to….or we may feel conflicted about our personalities, our weaknesses and tendencies, or how life has unfolded for us.
This painting calls us back to the beginning, back to the time before the winds and storms of life got into our eyes and disorientated us. Whatever place we may be at now, there is still a cord that connects us back to our Maker and Redeemer.
The hands that fashioned us are also the hands that redeemed us; they are the hands that bore the nails, the whip and the crown of thorns. Even if we value ourselves very little or if others value us very little, to God, we are worth the price that He paid. To Jesus, we are wonderful, each of us in our own quirky ways, and we bring Him joy that we cannot even imagine.
Psalm 139:14
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.
Hebrews 12:2
Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the Author and Perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
“We, the redeemed, are the joy set before Him.”
Majesty
Medium: Acrylics on Canvas
Size: 18 x 24 inches
Completed: 2022
Selling price: S$1,120
This is the only landscape painting by this artist in this exhibition. It is a joyous celebration of God’s glory and magnificence. There is nothing like a sun set (or a sun rise) to invoke a deep sense of worship. The Bible explains that we feel this way because the heavens declare the glory of God, even as the skies proclaim the work of His hands.

Psalm 19:
1 The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.
4.....In the heavens God has pitched a tent for the sun. 5 It is like a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, like a champion rejoicing to run his course. 6It rises at one end of the heavens and makes its circuit to the other; nothing is deprived of its warmth.
Psalm 145:10
All Your works shall give thanks to You, O Lord, and Your godly ones shall bless You. 11 They shall speak of the glory of Your kingdom and talk of Your power;
12 To make known to the sons of men Your mighty acts and the glory of the majesty of Your kingdom.

My Cup Overflows
Medium: Acrylics on Canvas
Size: 18 x 14 inches
Completed: 2022
Selling price: S$940

This is the only still life painting by this artist in the Behold 2022 exhibition. It is a meditation on the goodness of God during the Covid season. The artist’s husband served on the frontlines during the Covid war. Through it all, despite the hard work and long hours, God kept him and the whole family safe and sound. There was peace in the household and an abundance of joy, despite the lockdown and all its inconveniences.
The painting features a cup overflowing with a citrusy bouquet. The motif on the cup sometimes looks like a row of stars and at other times, a ring of thorns. Life is very much like that: sometimes, it looks like a long, unending trial; yet that same trial also looks like layers of glory upon glory.

Psalm 23
1 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters.
3 He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.
4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
